Hi, and welcome to an overview of the Brush Lettering Online Courses (Part 1 and Part 2)… this overview will explain what you can expect from the two courses, and answers some FAQ’s
I run these courses at least once a year if you want to participate in them as ‘live’ classes. However, Part 1 and 2 are also available as complete online courses that you can purchase and watch any time…
If you hate the idea of sitting in zoom classes, then just buy the course and watch the recorded lessons and bonus videos.. you will still get the full course but you will just watch the lessons on YouTube or my website
What is brush lettering…?
Brush lettering is a modern calligraphy style, and is quite different to the traditional calligraphy styles that have been around for hundreds of years. For starters, you use a brush pen and not a calligraphy pen with a flat nib. If you are not sure about the different styles of calligraphy, then have a quick look here
Do I need a special pen…?
You will need a brush pen for this course, so have a look here if you are not sure what a brush pen is, or which one to get
I’ve tried brush lettering on my own and it did not go well.. why will this course be different?
The most important part of brush lettering is mastering the basic strokes.. these are the building blocks of the alphabet, specifically the lowercase alphabet. Most people don’t realise this, or don’t spend enough time getting them right.. or worse, simply don’t know how to use the pen properly and they never even get to try the basic strokes because they just give up…
This is where I come in… I’ll help you to learn how to hold your pen correctly, and to master the basic strokes.. then we will move on to the lowercase alphabet, and progress to words and uppercase letters as well as layout. I have broken the course up into two separate parts so that it is more manageable and easier to follow.
I’m a complete beginner… can I still do Part 2?
Part 2 focuses on the uppercase alphabet and various other creative techniques. If you are a complete beginner it would be much better for you to start with Part 1 which focuses on how to hold your brush pen, basic strokes and the lowercase alphabet. You can purchase Part 1 and completed it in your own time
