Modern Calligraphy is an elegant and easy modern style of calligraphy using a pointed dipping pen (the scary looking pointy pen).. Perfect style for either right or left handed people, and MUCH easier than brush lettering.
Learn the ins and outs of how to mix your ink, how to keep your ink flowing, and which inks and papers to use for the best results.

In person and online workshops available, as well as workshop recordings. I very seldom host online workshops, so I would suggest getting the recording if you want to learn online (see below). Private workshops also available on request.

***N.B. For the ONLINE workshop you will need to have an oblique pen holder with a pointed nib, a pot of ink and the correct paper for this workshop.. These can be bought separately, or as a kit from the Calligraphy Joburg online shop ahead of time (please order in time for it to be delivered)

Modern Calligraphy for Beginners - IN PERSON

This 3 hour short course, presented by Robyn of Calligraphy Joburg, is aimed at anyone wanting to learn the absolute basics of modern calligraphy using a dipping pen and ink. No experience required, and suitable for complete beginners, including left handed people. This workshop will be fun and is meant to demystify calligraphy and give you a little taste of what it’s all about.

We’ll cover the following: The correct way to hold your dipping pen, how to select and purchase nibs, nib holders and ink, and how to care for your calligraphy nibs. Suitable for left handed people as well.

You’ll use my pens and ink during the workshop, and I’ll have Moblique pen holders, nibs, ink and paper for sale at the workshop 😝 (especially for all the pen addicts)

COST:  R490 pp (incl. a workbook, paper and refreshments)
